Structural Engineer
Xan joined Neel-Schaffer in 2002 and has more than 15 years of experience as a structural engineer.
Based in the firm’s Jackson (MS) office, Xan provides bridge design and inspection services. Since 2011 he has been an integral member of the Fracture Critical/Bridge Inspections and Load Rating team that has conducted more than 350 bridge inspections across the state of Mississippi.
Xan is also responsible for the design and detailing of various bridge projects, with the projects varying in scope from small rural, voided slab county bridges to major steel curved girder bridges.
In 2015, Xan wrote the training manual and then led the “Seismic Design Training Course” for other Neel-Schaffer engineers and bridge division personnel from the Mississippi Department of Transportation. This course and training manual focused on displacement-based seismic design of bridges, and the software required for this task.
Xan is proficient in using various design software packages such as MDX Software, Leap Software, BDS Software, WINSeisab, RAM Advance, and SAP 2000. He also designs / programs VBA enabled Excel spreadsheets to use as design tools to aid in the design process.
