Full-service facility is first Westin property in Mississippi
JACKSON, Miss. (Aug. 3, 2017) – Neel-Schaffer is pleased to have played a role in the construction of the new full-service Westin hotel that opened today in downtown Jackson.
The Westin Jackson includes 203 rooms and suites, a win bar and bistro, a resort-style spa, a fitness studio, and a saltwater pool. The $60 million public-private development is the first Westin property in Mississippi.
“We are excited to be a part of the resurgence of downtown Jackson,” said Mike Burton, the new venue’s general manager. “The Westin Jackson will set the bar for the city’s hospitality Industry and become an important part of the community.”
Neel-Schaffer provided a variety of services prior to and during construction of the facility, starting with the demolition of the building that sat on the site. Our services included Phase 1 and Phase 2 environmental site assessments, asbestos and lead-based paint surveys, topographic and field surveys, a traffic impact study, and construction plans and specs for the site plan review.
During the construction phase, Neel-Schaffer reviewed submittals, made site visits, and was available to answer questions from the contractor.
While the hotel was under construction, Neel-Schaffer also assisted with the design and construction of the $900,000 project to provide off-site water and sewer improvements associated with the hotel development. The improvements included approximately 2,300 linear feet of new ductile iron water pipe and associated fittings, new gate valves, new fire hydrants and connections to existing water lines, and 1,300 linear feet of 10-inch sanitary sewer and connecting manholes.
