JACKSON, Miss. (October 23, 2023) – Dr. Jennifer Sloan Ziegler, PE, PhD, ENV SP, CECP, of Neel-Schaffer was honored recently by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), which awarded her with the 2023 Edmund Friedman Young Engineer Award for Professional Achievement.
Jennifer joined Neel-Schaffer in 2023 and serves as an Environmental Senior Project Manager based in the Jackson office. She has 13 years of extensive and diverse experience and was spotlighted by Engineering News-Record as one of the nation’s rising stars in professional engineering when she was named to the magazine’s prestigious 2023 National Top 20 Under 40 list.
The ASCE Young Engineer Award winner is selected annually by the ASCE’s Committee on Younger Members and the award salutes “professional achievement in service to the advancement of the profession, evidence of technical competence, high character and integrity, and contributions to public service outside their career.”
Jennifer is active in multiple engineering organizations, including serving as President Elect of ASCE’s Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI).

Jennifer received a PhD in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University. She holds two degrees from MSU, a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Water Resources emphasis, and she earned a master’s Certificate in Coastal Engineering from the University of New Orleans.
